AUTOCON

Client : AUTOCON
Role :
Creative Direction, Experience Design, Execution

Goal :
To create a well-known brand within the automotive aftermarket scene bringing communities together through shared common interests and love for all things on wheels.

Challenges : The biggest challenge about this project was creating a brand from scratch without any prior knowledge or experience in design or event planning.

Design Solution : The best way to grow and get better is through making a lot of mistakes. This project allowed me the space to really push boundaries and test out my concepts through trial and error.

Description : AutoCon is a self created passion project that started out of love and appreciation for automotive culture which then evolved into a full-fledged business. It is a one-of-a-kind car show event to connect like-minded auto enthusiasts around the world. Since 2010, AutoCon has produced numerous events nationwide in major cities such as Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, St. Louis, Atlanta, Miami, Newark and New York.

What I did :
Branding, Website, Content Creation, Event Planning, Stage Design, Social Media Management

Inspirational Elements : Inspired by futuristic and abstract forms. Abstract triangular shapes, sci-fi movies, robots, music festivals, cars, motorcycles, shoes and more.

Custom Awards – Obelisk
The Obelisk was created to set a higher standard for car show participants of AutoCon. Only four (4) are made per show awarding the best of the best vehicle builds at each event. The Obelisk represents creativity, craftsmanship and prestige.

Concept Sketches : All ideas start with a hand-drawn concept sketch. From the sketches a design is chosen and then moves on to the prototyping stage.

Prototype – Foam Board Construction

The Obelisk prototype was handcrafted from white foam board cut into abstract pieces and held together with masking tape. Understanding the prototype allows for a better visual of what to expect in the final product.

Final – Acrylic Construction
Abstract triangular shapes cut from acrylic sheets were used to build the Obelisk. The pieces were then assembled with heavy duty glue to create its final form.

Custom Awards – Pylon
The Pylon was created as an extension to the prestigious Obelisk awards. Similar to the Obelisk, the Pylons were made as a symbol of excellence.

Concept Sketches: Early concepts and ideas of the Pylon.

Prototype – Plywood Construction
Through collaboration with a good friend, the Pylon prototype was laser-cut out of plywood using advanced CAD software.

Prototype – Aluminum + Acrylic Construction
Understanding the design and form of the plywood prototype allowed for experimentation with different types of materials.

Final – Aluminum + Acrylic Construction
The final Pylon awards were constructed out of acrylic and aluminum metals.
